A. Prophetic Encouragement
Matthew 6:10 is where Jesus teaches us to pray, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” In this simple prayer-sentence, Jesus gives away a lot! He is telling us that everything present in the Kingdom of Heaven is available for us now, here on earth.
TO DECREE is our tool to stand in this authority, to get into alignment with Heaven and to command its blessings to manifest from the supernatural realm into our natural realm.
Job 22:28 says, “You shall decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; And light shall shine upon your ways.” By use of the word “shall,” this verse is actually commanding us to decree. It also comes with a promise that when we do, those things “shall” be established for us.
This is a season where the open heavens are beckoning us to call forth “that which is unseen, into the seen” realm. Use decrees to cause the Kingdom of Heaven to manifest into the kingdom of the earth. Decree your healing, decree emotional stability, decree financial security, decree peace, decree your destiny!
Whatever it is that you have been longing for from Heaven, decree it!
B. Devotional Teaching
Decrees based on biblical truths cause our circumstances to change such that the Kingdom of Heaven becomes our reality.
Decrees begin with a statement of purpose, truth or vision, but they are much more than just an announcement.
THE FIRST THING A DECREE DOES IS IMPLEMENT A JUDGMENT IN
OUR FAVOR WITH THE AUTHORITY OF A COURT ORDER.
In the English language, the word decree implies not only that a judgment has been implemented but also that it is implemented with the degree of impact, or the level of authority of, an order being issued by a court.
For example, if a defendant is found guilty of a crime and ordered to serve a prison sentence, that defendant cannot refuse going to jail. In fact, that defendant no longer has a say in the matter. Why? Because the power of a court order is such that it is superior to that defendant’s choice or will. If that defendant is sentenced to jail, he must – he will – serve time in jail.
For us this means that when we decree sickness to leave our body, it must leave our body. It no longer has any further say in the matter – it can no longer have any impact upon our well-being. Why? Because the power of our decree for it to leave our body, the power of our decree claiming the power of the blood of Jesus, the power of our decree that “by Christ’s stripes we are healed,” is such that it must leave.
While we may not see sickness leave with our natural eyes, we need to understand that by absolute definition of the word decree, sickness now has no further say, it cannot refuse to leave. It must go. Stand in that authority.
THE SECOND THING A DECREE DOES IS IMPLEMENT THE WILL
AND PURPOSES OF GOD
In biblical tradition, decrees are said to be one and the same as the very purposes of God. For this reason, decrees based on Scripture and biblical truths, rather than our own vision or desires, are a great safety net. We are assured that when we decree God’s Word and His promises, we are implementing the very will and purposes of God.
By example, when we take a verse like Jeremiah 29:11 and decree, “I know the plans God has for me are to prosper me, not to harm me, and to give me a hope and a future,” then by the simple act of decreeing that truth over our life, that truth is being implemented in such a way as to cause it to become our reality. We are actually and literally implementing the will and purpose of God to prosper us.
THE THIRD THING A DECREE DOES IS TO DESTROY
ANYTHING PURPOSED AGAINST US.
In the Hebrew language, the word decree is understood as meaning: to divide, to cut in two, to cut off and to destroy.
This means that when we decree prosperity, we are dividing ourselves from lack and poverty. When we decree healing, we are cutting off and destroying sickness. When we decree our divine destiny, we are destroying anything purposed against us.
THE FOURTH THING A DECREE DOES IS TO IMPOSE
A HARSH JUDGMENT AGAINST THE ENEMY, WHICH
JUDGMENT CANNOT BE OPPOSED.
The German word Diktat is the equivalent of the English decree and it means: “a harsh judgment imposed on a defeated enemy that cannot be opposed.”
The power in understanding this aspect of a decree is that our decrees not only render judgment in our favor with the authority of a court order, they not only implement the very will and purposes of God, they not only destroy anything purposed against us, but they also impose a harsh judgment against our enemy, which that enemy cannot oppose or escape.
Our spiritual enemy appears in many forms, sickness, poverty, depression, etc. However, when we decree health, prosperity, peace and blessing over ourselves, our family, our business, our future, then the enemy and the forms he takes to rob us is rendered subject to a harsh judgment of defeat, which he has no power nor authority nor standing to oppose.
WHEN WE DECREE A THING, IT IS ESTABLISHED FOR US. Job 22:28
C. Weekly Scripture Meditation
Week ONE – Jeremiah 1:12
In Jeremiah 1:12, the Lord is speaking to the prophet and He says,
“For I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it.”
When we decree, it is not our words that control or change our circumstances. What they do is get us into alignment with God’s truths and Word – over which HE HIMSELF is alert, active, watching and ready to perform!
Week TWO – Psalm 103:20
“Bless the Lord, you His angels, mighty in strength, who perform His word, obeying the voice of His word.”
When we speak God’s promises and truths from His Word, we “give voice to His Word,” and the angels are released and commissioned to perform it. We are not commanding the angels, but when we give voice to the Word and promises of God, not only is God Himself alert, ready and active to perform it, but so are His angels. And we know from Hebrews 1:14 that the angels are sent to minister to us, and this is one way that they do – they perform the Word of God on our behalf.
Week THREE – Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)
By the simple act of decreeing this truth over your life, that truth is being implemented in such a way as to cause it to become your reality. You are actually and literally implementing the will and purpose of God to prosper you.
Week FOUR – Job 22:28
“Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; And light shall shine upon thy ways.” (ASV)
This is an instruction with a promise. The instruction is that you “shall.” This shows us God is not only encouraging us to decree as “a good thing to do.” It is His direct command and instruction of what we should be doing. It is followed with the promise that it “shall” be established.
