THE WRITING ON THE WALL - DANIEL 5
by, Kerry Champagne-Lauman
God is about to serve notice to the darkness that is holding children captive in our backyard!
In a dream I was informed that the police had just found a child who had been abducted and held captive. Then moments later I was an invisible observer of what had taken place. The grievous portion of the dream was not only the state of the child, but that I realized Christians were involved. They weren’t directly abusing the child, but they were sent into the same empty room where the child was being held and it was apparent that they were somehow a part of the whole thing. The child (with the sense that there were others) was being held in a room only doors down from a Christian service. Within the dream there was a powerful symbol that the Lord highlighted as the epicentre of the dream, some “writing on the wall’. One letter or word was specifically written in Hebrew. In prayer the Lord led me to Daniel 5.
This word happens to be one of those really hard words to write. My heart is both grieved and full of thankfulness. Grieved at the evil that has penetrated the Church but so thankful for the righteous ways and justice of our God and that He is about to address the issue in His mercy.
I was in our Sunday worship service simply caught up in loving on the beauty of God when I was interrupted by a pungent smell of lemons, like lemon cleanser. I thought to myself, "that's a strange scent for someone to have on them" and went back to worship. Moments later another waft of lemon baffled my senses and I thought, "Maybe the Lord is trying to get my attention. If this is a message from God what would it be?" Immediately I thought of a cleansing work. Nights later I had that very sobering dream. Let’s look at what the writing on the wall means in Daniel 5.
1 King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles and drank wine with them. 2 While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobels, his wives and his concubines might drink from them. 3 So they brought in the gold goblets that had been taken from the temple of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines drank from them. 4 As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone. 5 Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote. 6 His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his knees knocked together and his legs gave way. 7 The king called out for the enchanters, astrologers and diviners to be brought and said to these wise men of Babylon, "Whoever reads this writing and tells me what it means will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom." 8 Then all the king's wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant. 9 So King Belshazzar became even more terrified and his face grew more pale. His nobles were baffled. 10 The queen, hearing the voices of the king and his nobles, came into the banquet hall. "O king, live forever!" she said. "Don't be alarmed! Don't look so pale! 11 There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods. King Nebuchadnezzar your father--your father the king, I say--appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners. 12 This man Daniel, whom the king called Belteshazzar, was found to have a keen mind and knowledge and understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means." 13 So Daniel was brought before the king, and the king said to him, "Are you Daniel, one of the exiles my father the king brought from Judah? 14 I have heard that the spirit of the gods is in you and that you have insight, intelligence and outstanding wisdom. 15 The wise men and enchanters were brought before me to read this writing and tell me what it means, but they could not explain it. 16 Now I have heard that you are able to give interpretations and to solve difficult problems. If you can read this writing and tell me what it means, you will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom." 17 Then Daniel answered the king, "You may keep your gifts for yourself and give your rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means. 18 "O king, the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty and greatness and glory and splendor. 19 Because of the high position he gave him, all the peoples and nations and men of every language dreaded and feared him. Those the king wanted to put to death, he put to death; those he wanted to spare, he spared; those he wanted to promote, he promoted; and those he wanted to humble, he humbled. 20 But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. 21 He was driven away from people and given the mind of an animal; he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like cattle; and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and sets over them anyone he wishes. 22 "But you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this. 23 Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways. 24 Therefore he sent the hand that wrote the inscription. 25 "This is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN+F25 ARAMAIC "UPARSIN" (THAT IS, "AND PARSIN")+E 26 "This is what these words mean: Mene": God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. 27 Tekel": You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting. 28 Peres": Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians." 29 Then at Belshazzar's command, Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom. 30 That very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians, was slain, 31 and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.
The gold and silver cups are the children in this message. Let's look at vs.2 again.
2 While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink from them.
The children are holy vessels to God. God will not be mocked, what is holy cannot be defiled. I don't think we the Church have a grasp of the magnitude of severity that the child trafficking/abuse has in our culture today. God has been raising voices higher and louder in this hour over this issue. God will not relent until every child has been freed and this giant is slain. He is doing a mighty work of deliverance and He will of course start with His own bride. This generational sin must be cut off.
In my dream the part that grieved my heart so much was that Christians were aiding in the whole system. As God's ambassadors, we should be the very ones who cry out for justice and be the ones who rescue any child we see in such bondage. Yet, in this dream, Christians were doing the opposite, nothing to help bring justice. Maybe our silence or indifference in this issue is just as serious to God as those who are the instigators.
This is not a message against the Church or a judgment against Christians what so ever. I love them both dearly, believe me! This is a message of proclamation. The WRITING IS ON THE WALL! Just as God spoke to Belshazzar the King to let him know that his kingdom had come to end, so too is this message from God in this hour.
To the industry that holds children captive against their will, whether for sex, illegal labour, drugs or whatever ... the Lord is saying your days are numbered and your kingdom will not stand. Justice is being served. This industry is coming to an end!!! Judgment against the evil powers that are working to uphold this industry will be brought down and those involved will be exposed.
You see the sad part is that if we the Church are involved with this evil (or any evil) and do not repent, we will go down in the same boat that is about to sink. The great news is that if we do repent, we have a loving Father waiting for us who will help us continue in His righteous ways. He is so gracious, so loving, so forgiving, but He cannot tolerate evil, especially in His beloved bride. This is true grace, to deal with the evil and set humble hearts free.
If you are reading this word, pray! Pray that His mercy and justice will be released and children everywhere, especially in our backyard, will be set free to live the life and destiny Christ died for them to live. For the church, that she will be first to repent and cleanse herself of all unrighteousness. Pray how you can make a difference!
