I want spiritual transformation! Like Paul, I fight against the sinful desires of my flesh (Rom. 7), sickness in my body and lack in my life. I agree with Paul's conclusion:I cannot overcome the flesh using the power of the flesh. ONLY the power of the Spirit can work a miracle of transformation (Rom. 8). To access this power, I need to surrender self-effort, as that stands in the way of divine enabling. Wow! I need to stop striving if I am going to make it in life! That's just a bit counter-intuitive!
The flesh cannot overcome the flesh - only the Spirit can!
I shift my faith from depending on self to depending on God.
Surrendering to God’s power allows transformation to occur.
Spiritual transformation is a work of the Spirit, not my flesh!
- The seed which births spiritual transformation is planted when God grants revelation to my heart. "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner… I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me" (Jn. 5:19,20,30; 17:22). I must do nothing of my own initiative, but only what I hear and see the Father doing.
- This seed is fertilized when I mix it with faith: The word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: "SO I SWORE IN MY WRATH, 'THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST,'" although the works were finished from the foundation of the world (Heb. 4:1-3). Note: The promise, or potentiality, of blessing, was there and available but not realized because they did NOT believe it was part of their future. "It shall be done to you according to your faith" (Matt. 9:29).
- I cease my OWN works: "For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience" (Heb. 4:10-11). "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words (rhema) that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life” (Jn. 6:63). I stop exerting my strength to get the job done, knowing the efforts of the flesh accomplish nothing, and worse than that, create Ishmaels, which bring about wars lasting thousands of years.
- I ask for God’s help, and He gives it: "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need" (Heb. 4:16). I pray, asking God to intervene, to release His kingdom on earth, in this situation, and then I command, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matt. 6:10).
- I hold fast my confession of what God has promised: "Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end. Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: "TODAY, IF YOU WILL HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS IN THE REBELLION, IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS, WHERE YOUR FATHERS TESTED ME, TRIED ME, AND SAW MY WORKS FORTY YEARS. THEREFORE I WAS ANGRY WITH THAT GENERATION, AND SAID, 'THEY ALWAYS GO ASTRAY IN THEIR HEART, AND THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN MY WAYS.' SO I SWORE IN MY WRATH, 'THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.'" Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called "TODAY," lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end… to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief" (Heb. 3:6-19).
- I bring every thought in my mind into submission to God’s revealed will: "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ" (2 Cor. 10:3-5). The spiritual warfare I fight is largely in my mind where I destroy every thought which does not line up with God’s revealed word, and insist every one of my thoughts agree with, and obey, what Christ has spoken to me.
- I live in thankfulness that I have triumphed in Christ: "Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place" (2 Cor. 2:14). The sweet aroma I give off is my true gratitude that God's revealed blessings are already present in my life. I experience this by continuously gazing upon His revealed blessings, until my emotions are caught up with what I am seeing with the eyes of my heart.
- I silence unbelieving thoughts with passionate praise, knowing and feeling that the blessing is already done: "Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger" (Ps. 8:2). Note how Jesus quotes this verse, changing two words: 'OUT OF THE MOUTH OF BABES AND NURSING INFANTS YOU HAVE PERFECTED PRAISE" (Matt. 21:16). So as we praise God for doing that which He has spoken to us, and we see it and feel it already done, this perfected praise sends out streams of faith, drawing God’s provision to us (Mk. 10:20-22).
-
I experience “the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus” - a divine energizing within which transforms: "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free… do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace…. But if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God" (Rom. 8:2-16).
- I put on the full armor of God, standing in the strength of the Lord, by being IN Christ: I am filled with faith, hope, love and peace. I live in righteousness and battle doubt by using the rhema word God has given me. I pray and petition all the time in the Spirit (Eph. 6:10-18; 1 Thess. 5:8). Note how the armor is the things we receive from Jesus: Jesus is the hope of our salvation, and the Prince of Peace, as well as being our righteousness. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and Jesus is the Word.
Journaling on the flesh versus the Spirit
Mark, that which is of the flesh is of the flesh and will not overcome that which is of the Spirit.
Heart issues are interwoven with spirit issues, as the spirit resides within the heart. So you will not overcome issues of your heart or the meditations of your heart with the will of your mind or mental self-control.
Your mind does not have the power necessary to overcome the power of the spirit world. Only the Spirit of God can overcome the damages wrought by satan’s kingdom. He is the adversary. He and his cohorts: principalities, powers and evil spirits. These will NOT be overcome by the mind or the setting of man’s will. These will only be overcome by the power of My Spirit.
So as you come into My presence, you experience My mercy and My manifest power. You are enabled to operate in the power of My Spirit. This is when the “law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus” enters in. It is the energizing that your spirit feels when in My presence, the presence of the King, the most powerful One in the universe. His rays, My rays, penetrate and transform you and the deceitfulness in your soul. That is where the victory is won. That is where the victory is won. That is where the victory is won.
So come to Me. Enter into My presence, and ask of Me and draw upon Me and you shall receive life, My life, My power, My Spirit. That is what overcomes the flesh. NOTHING ELSE accomplishes this. So teach people to come into My presence.
Lord, how do we come into Your presence?
By beholding Me, by seeing Me. By coming before Me and honoring Me and worshipping Me as your life and your source of all. I am your Lord and your Savior. Those who recognize that and who enter before Me, into My courts, receive from Me. Those who don’t, struggle on their own, looking to their own flesh and their own strength to accomplish, and they do not receive from Me.
So come before Me, receive of Me and your joy will be full. Come, stand and worship in My presence, for there your triumph is made complete. It is perfected praise which brings forth My victory.
My confession:
- My flesh cannot overcome my flesh - only the Spirit of God can transform me!
- I surrender to You, God, and to Your power to bring forth transformation in my life.
- I put off faith in my laboring and I put on faith that it is God who accomplishes.
- I choose to listen ONLY to God, to believe and confess ONLY what He reveals, and to obey whatever steps of action He asks me to take, feeling gratitude in my heart that by His power the task is ALREADY completed.
I Experience Daily, Continuous Spiritual Transformations Because…
- I ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom for each and every decision
- I honor my heart's flow of thoughts, pictures and emotions
- I quit striving since my flesh profits nothing
- I ask for God’s help, and He gives it
- I ONLY speak what God has promised
- I ONLY allow thoughts which agree with what God has promised
- I live in thankfulness that I have already triumphed through Christ
- I passionately praise Him for already completing the work
- I feel the Spirit’s energizing within, enabling me to do what He asks
- I walk aware that I am “in Christ,” clothed by His righteousness, hope and peace
These establish FAITH, which hardwires me to attract God’s blessings (Deut. 28:1-14)
