The following question was emailed to me: A spiritual friend said to me, “God is a jealous God. Jesus is not actually 'God.' There is only one God.” This counsel has hindered my journaling. So my question is, “Does the Father approve of me calling Jesus My God?"

My answer: Well, I guess I normally call Jesus either Jesus or Lord since He is both my Friend and my Lord.

The Church has believed in the God who is three in one, Who manifests Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Here is a verse where God calls His Son, God, and the identical Greek word for God is used in referring to God the Father and God the Son (G2316 - theos)

  • God (G2316- theos), after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways… (Heb. 1:1)
  • Of the Son He says, "YOUR THRONE, O GOD (G2316 theos), IS FOREVER AND EVER... (Heb.1:8)

Of course you need look no further than the first verse of John, the Beloved: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (Jn. 1:1).

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. (Isa 9:6)

These are just a few of many verses which clearly say Jesus is God. Thus the Church believes in the Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - all three being expressions of God.

For example, I am one person functioning in three roles. I am a father, a son and a grandfather. That doesn’t make me three different people. An egg has a shell, yoke and white part. All three parts are considered an egg. The sun has light and heat and energy, but we refer to all three as the sun. So we have three-in-one realities all around us.

I recall years ago I journaled and asked, “Who do I pray to?” Here is that journaling: https://www.cwgministries.org/whom-do-we-pray

Wow to this list: 135 Names & Titles of Jesus | OnFireForGod.today

I don’t feel comfortable messing with the Trinity and saying it doesn’t exist. Below are lists of verses concerning the Trinity. I would suspect if you would meditate on these Scriptures, and journal about them, you would come to peace and clarity. (I didn’t create these lists, so perhaps not every verse supports the idea with equal strength, but I am glad to review them to see what they have to say.)

Learn how you can do your own deep dive into Scripture and discover clear biblical answers

Unfortunately, people sometimes give advice that is contrary to Scripture. You do not need to be deceived by such counsel. You can learn how to use e-Sword, which is a free Bible software program. I love it and use it continuously. It has downloadable training videos showing how to use it. In addition, I have created my own videos as to how I use it, and we have these available in this training module: The Art of Biblical Meditation.

I believe everyone owes it to themselves to become skilled in doing in-depth Bible research with these easy-to-use electronic Bible tools which are freely downloadable.
