A Christian bookstore owner was looking for rare out-of-print books to add to his collection and he came upon an English translation of a book written in the 1600s by Madame Jeanne Guyon entitled A Short and Easy Method of Prayer.
This book proceeds to basically teach the 4 Keys to Hearing God's Voice, sharing that when you are quiet enough and even when doing mindless activities, God speaks into your heart with spontaneous pictures, words and thoughts and can guide and lead you personally through this type of meditation. As she wrote in one of her poems: "There was a period when I chose a time and place for prayer. ... But now I seek that constant prayer, in inward stillness."
History repeats itself
I am fascinated by how God gives these true revelations to each generation in His own unique way. So we are not the first generation to be presented with the 4 keys to hearing God's voice (stillness, vision, spontaneity, journaling). It is such a life-giving message we carry, and I am so grateful for each one who learns these keys, uses them to establish intimacy with God, and shares them with those who are hungry!
