SPIRITUAL TSUNAMI!

by Jim Wies

A few days before the tragic tsunami that washed over the shorelines of Japan, the Lord had me prophesy at our local church that there was a "tsunami of grace" coming to the church. Many had been laboring hard and "rowing in their boats" trying to move in the right direction against the tide that was pulling us in the wrong direction. But the tide was turning and there was a wave building that was going to pick us up and take over control and take us where we needed to go. All we needed to do was put down the oars and hang on to the boat.

It reminded me of an article I once read by a well known prophet in which he related a vision he saw of a mighty river at extreme flood stage, overflowing it's banks. He felt it was a picture of an outpouring of the Spirit happening in many places around the world. The excitement he felt about the water overflowing it's banks and reaching normally dry areas was a thrill to him until God spoke and told him "You have not seen anything yet", and then gave him a picture of a massive wall of water crashing down the river channel, pressing the flood far beyond where the waters had ever been before. He then saw various people reacting different ways to the new wave. Some were afraid and fleeing, while others were jumping on surfboards, inner tubes, etc. and having a time of their lives enjoying the water.

He went on to say... "This new demonstration of God's power will be so radical that it will confront the "I've been there & done that" spirit which permeates much of the church today. Soon we will realize we haven't seen anything yet. For those who have their hearts wide open to a fresh move of the Spirit of God, the best is yet to come."

And while certainly the natural disaster we recently saw was overwhelming, and dramatically changed the scene with its destructive force; this spiritual tsunami of grace was going to be a tsunami of God's power and presence. It too would be overwhelmingly powerful, and destroy a lot of man-made structures; changing the face of the church by causing many to loose control. Selah!

In a newsletter a while back from a well known prophetic voice John Sandford, he stated, "A new wave is coming, about to break in upon us. The first descended upon Argentina, with repentances, deliverances and conversions; upon Toronto, inundating people with the love of the Lord; on Pensacola, with repentances and conversions - and in many other places in varying degrees of intensity. Now, another wave is rising, huge and powerful, soon to crash upon the shores of the Church."

John went on to point out some very important things that wise people are doing to be ready. Many are fasting and praying, entreating God to move in power and demonstration of His glory. Many are realizing that wholeness, purity and integrity are critical if we are to maintain balance in the midst of "high voltage" surges of God's power amongst us. Many are recognizing the importance of being rightly connected to the Body of Christ. Networks and alliances are emerging as many are realizing that both safety and strength are multiplied through unity, cooperation and accountability.

One of the clear evidences that breakthroughs are imminent is the intensity of the testing and sifting much of the Church has been experiencing. And now, even the nations are being sifted. The apostle Peter knew something of this when he wrote: "In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love."  1 Pet 1:6-8

It was Peter himself who was severely sifted and tested just 50 days before the spectacular Pentecost Sunday sermon where he brought 3,000 people to belief in Jesus. His test was described in Luke 22:31-32 "And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. "But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren." It seems the Lord has given permission for the church to endure sifting and testing in the same way in preparation for the great breakthroughs that are coming.

An interesting side note about Peter's experience was that Jesus' prayer was not to rescue him from the test, but that after he failed the test, he would still respond to God in faith. It seems that God's tests are not like ours... The "test" for Peter was not the test. The real test was how he would respond to having failed the "test".

Peter came from that experience a bit more humble, broken and dependent on the Lord. But then, those are the things God is much more interested in. He already knows we're but dust without His help. He really just wants us to realize it as well. Peter was now ready for great exploits, humbly acknowledging his dependence on the Spirit of God.

So it is today. God is about the process of preparing us for more. We've seen Him shaking the nations of things they have been putting their confidence in other than God. We've seen Him purging his church of greed, immorality, pride and personal ambition. He wants a bride without spot or wrinkle. God has been preparing us for His purposes.  The incredible thing is, God keeps saying over and over again to His prophets; "You haven't seen anything yet. There is a tsunami wave of God's revelation, power and presence on it's way!"
