his blog is a follow up to my earlier blog, God Says I Am Healed Yet Symptoms Persist. In this blog we will explore the topic of speaking life to our bodies as a means of sending symptoms into remission.
Did you know you can speak to your body?
I can speak to my heart and say, "I appreciate you for beating so consistently for 67 years. Thank you. You are a blessing to me. Heart, be strong, be at peace, beat in sinus rhythm, forgive and love all. Jesus, sweep the memories of cellular trauma out of the cells of my chest and heart."
Actually I amspeaking these things daily as I am in the process of healing from recent bypass surgery.
I can speak to my legs and say, “Thank you for your amazing and wonderful job you have done for me for 67 years. I love and appreciate you. You are healed of restless leg syndrome. Be at peace. Function normally. I speak to all restlessness, fear, tension and trauma to drain out in Jesus' name. I speak peace and calm to my legs."
I amspeaking these things to my legs as I remove the remaining symptoms of restless leg syndrome, which appeared seven weeks after my open heart surgery, during which they took two veins from my legs for the five bypasses they performed. I suppose the medication I am on could also be contributing to this issue.
Questions:So does the Bible indicate we are to speak to ourselves? Are there examples of this in Scripture? Are there rules I can follow that make this process more effective? The answer to each question is yes!
Speaking to yourself
Ephesians 5:19 is interesting in the Young’s Literal Translation- "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." Note:other translations say “speaking to one another" rather than speaking to ourselves.
The Greek word for yourselves is: (G1438 ἑαυτοῦ heautou) and Thayer’s definition is “himself, herself, itself, themselves.”
Jeff Duncan comments,“This is so good. So is it that our English translators couldn't imagine singing to ourselves so they changed the translation to fit their theology? In an inner healing model we have been exposed to, Heart Sync, they speak directly to hearts. At first I found it strange and questioned its validity, but I am coming around to it. I speak regularly to my heart and it is producing good things. I often say 'Peace my heart, Jesus is here. You don't have to be afraid.'"
David spoke to his soul giving it direction as to what to do
- Bless the Lord, O my soul (Ps. 103:1,2,22).
- Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance (Psalm 42:5).
- Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling (Psalm 116:7-8).
- Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul. While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being. (Psalm 146:1-2)
Soul/body connection
We have ample evidence that the condition of our soul affects our health. Kingdom emotions turn on healing genes, and emotions of fear, anger and unforgiveness turn on inflammation in our bodies. I am going to assume that when Ephesians 5:19 says I can speak to myself, that will include my soul, my spirit and my body so I am choosing to speak to all three parts of myself.
Employ heart prayers by using the language of the heart
To impact my heart, I must use the language of my heart. The language of my mind will not register as meaningful to my heart. The language of my heart incorporates the following seven elements: 1) It begins with God speaking a rhema word into my heart, which is affirmed as I choose to 2) speak the rhema word out loud, confessing that this is 3) my personal 4) present-tense reality. In addition, the language of the heart involves 5) pictures, 6) emotions 7) and biblical meditations to frame up in my spirit the things God desires to birth in my life.
- You have smitten all my enemies (Psalms 3:7).
- The LORD sustains me (Psalms 3:5).
- You, O LORD, are a shield about me (Psalms 3:3).
You will note that David's heart statements are 1) affirmative statements which are 2) personal and 3) present tense. Follow this example for maximun impact!
My declaration: I have decided I want to speak God’s truths as my personal, present-tense reality.
I proclaim aloud the following blessings:
- God, You have smitten this infirmity (name the specific infirmity that He has spoken to you is healed).
- God, You have healed my body (name the specific issue that He has spoken is healed).
- God, You protect and guard my life (speak this in an attitude of great joy, gratitude and thankfulness).
A Sample Prayer from Proverbs 4:20-23

Scripture & Hebrew meanings |
Contemporary applications |
1. |
My son (everything flows from relationship) |
Since I am God’s child and hear His voice... |
2. |
Give attention to my words |
I will focus on what God speaks to me, giving His words my undivided attention. |
3. |
Incline your ear to My sayings |
I humbly listen to what You speak, with a willingness to be taught and to be changed. |
4. |
Do not let them depart from your sight |
I behold a vision of Your promises to me as already fulfilled (Genesis 15:5-6). |
5. |
Keep them (hedge them in with thorns) in the midst of your heart |
I will continuously prick any thought that is counter to what You God have spoken. |
6. |
For they are life to those who find them and health (medicine) to all their body (entire being) |
When I speak your promises to me, they release Your life and healing to my entire being. They are medicine to me. |
7. |
Watch over (blockade) your heart with all diligence, for from it flows the springs (boundaries) of life. |
Nothing will penetrate the wall of defense I have built around my heart which protects God's spoken words to me. Aligning with His words releases my destiny. |
Healing and miracles occur as a result of a living encounter with the Living God (Luke 8:44-48). What I say must flow from truths revealed to my heart. This occurs as “He opens Scriptures to me” (Luke 24:32). So I tune to my heart to hear and see Him, and experience His healing power which I then speak as I utilize the language of the heart. I repeat this as necessary until all symptoms have vanished and my entire being is in full alignment with the spoken words of God.
Personal application
- Lord, what do you want me to speak concerning my body and my life? Help me write these statements as 1) affirmative statements that are 2) personal and 3) present tense, and speak them using the language of my heart. Thank You Lord.
- I am praying this prayer dailyto facilitate my healing process. It is powerful, and allows me to journal in the midst of it.
