A Prophetic Word about 10:10

For October 2010

by Elizabeth A. Nixon, Esq.

All over Facebook, Twitter and my emails this month there has been a lot of hubbub about all the “10’s.”  The classic was 10:10 o’clock on 10/10/10.  The question was repeated constantly, “Does this mean anything?” I found myself wondering the same thing.

A little online research and I discovered why the number 10 is said to represent Perfection of Divine Order.  Under our decimal number system, the number 10 is both the beginning of a new order of numbers and is the culmination of the numbers that come before it. But this is not unique to our modern numbering system. The ancient alphabet and numeric systems in Hebrew and Greek, which systems and principles are incorporated into the Bible, use the same numbering system based on 10.

For example, the number values assigned to the Hebrew and Greek letters show a numbering system where values are given from one to ten, then increasing in tens to 100, then increasing by 100’s and so on. of interest is the anatomical connection where the number 10 is the perfect number, ie: ten fingers and ten toes.

Since ancient times, the number 10 has meant completeness of order, meaning that nothing is lacking and nothing is left over. It signifies that the cycle is complete and everything is in its proper order. This is why the number 10 is said to represent Perfection of Divine Order.

Then just yesterday, rather randomly, I found myself reading: John 10:10 which says:  “The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I [Jesus] have come that they might have life, and might have it more abundantly.” Could it be that the significance of all the tens is that we are in a month (or season) where we can enter into the Perfection of Divine Order for our lives?

10:10 presents us with a choice: a life stolen, killed and destroyed by the thief, or an abundant life found in Jesus Christ.

As an attorney, I love to research words. I love to dig into deeper meanings to get the full context and purpose. I could not help but perform a legal analysis on this 10:10 verse. I dissected it the way I would dissect a legal statute. I separated the critical elements and defined the terms:

Element 1: The Theif: Who is the thief?

I know from church sermons that Jesus is referring to Satan as the thief, but I didn’t want to rely on this kind of “hearsay,” which is an occupational hazard. So I kept digging.

As used in this verse, the Greek word for “thief” is kleptas, (and is probably where we get the word kleptomaniac), and it specifically means “one who embezzles.”

Term: To Embezzle, means: to take that which was given in trust and without knowledge or permission. Interestingly, “to embezzle” is not limited only to the embezzlement of money.

As used in John 10:10, the embezzlement being described is the theft of our lives, hopes and dreams. It’s easy to relate to what this practically looks like in our every day: The ridiculous number of hours that work swallows up, the level of anxiety our debt creates, the inability to even imagine how our dreams can ever be realized. Each of these things, which are normal and almost expected, has stolen from us. They steal our peace of mind and time from our families. After a while, it does begin to feel as though a little part inside dies, and if not changed, we can too easily find ourselves on a downward spiral resulting in even our hopes and dreams being destroyed.

Element 2:  Life:  This is the Greek word Zoa or Zoe. The depth and impact of what this simple, single word means is incredible:

Term:  Zoe means:

  • A way of being that is bursting with vitality and blessings forever!
  • One who possesses absolute fullness, richness and ethical excellence,
  • Life: the real and genuine deal,
  • Active, vigorous, restorative,
  • Fully devoted,
  • Blessed, both in this life and the next

 I kept digging.

Term:  Vitality, in the Greek means:

  • Abundant physical and mental energy
  • Combined with a wholehearted and joyous approach to situations
  • The ability to live and grow

Had John 10:10 only said, “I have come that they may have life,” given the above definition of that word life or zoe, that in and of itself would be amazing, but the rest of the verse says:  “I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.”

Defining: Abundantly, in the Greek as used in this verse, it means:

  • Exceeding the mark
  • Over and above
  • More than is necessary
  • Plainly having much, much more
  • Uncommon
  • Superior
  • Having advantage, remarkable and excellent

This promise, presented to us prophetically for this 10:10 season is so intense, that in order to make it as real as possible, to enable us to really digest all that it holds for us, I have written the description of the John 10:10 life as a Decree:

JOHN 10:10 LIFE DECREE

I am bursting with vitality!

I have more physical and mental energy than

I know what to do with,

I approach every person, situation and circumstance

with complete and utter joy,

My life, my home, my family, my businesses and my hobbies

are all full and rich and complete,

My life is defined and known for its ethical excellence,

Every day I am actively engaged and vigorous in my passions,

I am fully devoted and expect to be blessed -

both in this life and the next,

My life is the real and genuine deal,

There are no dead-ends ahead, I live and grow continuously.

I set goals for myself and exceed them easily every time,

My bank accounts and cupboards contain far more

than is necessary to meet my needs,

It is obvious to everyone that I have an uncommon advantage in life,

I have so much, that I laugh at how much fun it is to keep giving it way,

My life is beyond what I could have hoped for,

it is far superior to anything imagined,

Every day is marked by excellence.

Wow!  What an awesome life. What an amazing promise. What a picture of how our life will look when aligned in the Perfection of Divine Order.

As we continue through this month of 10/10, I want to encourage you to look at the places where your life, hopes and dreams are being stolen, where they are being destroyed, and instead of feeling the defeat, decree this John 10:10 Life Decree over yourself, your home and your sphere of influence. Get yourself into alignment with the Perfect Divine Order so that you will live, daily, in a place where nothing is lacking and nothing is left over. In such a place, balance is restored, peace is restored, and you are refreshed.

Jesus has come that you may have an uncommon, superior Zoe kind of life. That’s what 10:10 is all about.
