A Time of Renewal

By Joyce Turner

All of us need renewal in our spiritual lives. Many of us are distracted by problems. Our flames are burning so low there is little evidence of the Holy Spirit burning in our hearts and souls. When we find the fire in our spirit is burning dim, it is time to fan the flames of prayer, fasting and the studying of God’s Word. The Holy Spirit burns quietly within us; ready to light the fuel and renew our relationship with the Father – if we will meditate on the Scripture, meet God daily in prayer and fast. Sometimes we need to pull away to a quiet place and seek God face-to-face, just as Moses did.

We cannot just seek a quick fix by rushing in and out of His presence and think we will see renewal in our lives. We may need to fan the flames of prayer and spend more time in the studying of His Word than we have in the past. I can tell you by experience it is worth it in the end! If we will lay aside all the things that so easily distract us, and place prayer and fellowship with God at the top of our list, we will be renewed! Only then will we see what it means to have the prayer of hope and the seed of the Word burning in our hearts and souls so deeply that renewal is the end result.

If the fire in your heart and soul is burning dim, still away, meditate on God’s Word, and pray. You will feel and see God’s refreshing breath lift you into His loving arms of fellowship. That dim fire will become a blaze of burning flames of passion as your spirit, soul and body are renewed by God’s presence. Romans 12:2 says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (nkjv) To renew is to renovate, implying a restoration of freshness. Today is the time for your refreshing renewal.
